This Event will run from 9pm - 3am and will include Tea & Coffee throughout the investigation....

You will get to use all of the Paranormal Equipment available on the night to investigate this amazing building . So come and see if  you are brave enough to experience the unknown!!!!

Brief History of the theatre

This impressive building on the front pier of Morecombe dates back to the 1870’s when it was opened as the local swimming baths.

But by 1896 the building was sold and the pools were drained in order to make way for what was to become one of the largest auditoriums of its time. The theatre was opened just a year later and boasted an Oriental ballroom as well as the theatre.  The theatre proved so popular that it was further extended creating 2,000 seats.  This popularity was short lived and by 1908 the company fell into liquidation. It was brought by WH Broadhead and Sons a year later with them adding a glass canopy and a billiard room underneath the theatre, a funfair was also added outside.  The company continued for nearly forty years showing silent movies during the First World War and introducing Bingo in the 1920’s.

During the Second World War the theatre was used to house evacuees, with the car park being used for drills by the RAF.

After the war the theatre continued to adapt to the trends of the time, showing a variety of performances including pantomimes and concerts as well as wrestling and holding dances, The Black and White Minstrels also performed at the theatre during this time.

By 1968 the number of theatre goers had dwindled and by 1977 the theatre was closed. Johnny’s entertainments purchased the theatre and the ballroom in 1980, the ballroom was knocked down to make way for an arcade and the theatre was left closed.

In 1986 the Friends of the Winter Gardens managed to save the run down theatre, and continue to nerture the building back to its former glory.
